• To make this soap I started with my standard oil blend.  I decided that I wanted to make a soap that combined the essence of cardamom and clove.  It seemed obvious to me that the color of this soap should be yellow – as yellow as yellow can be!  Hence, Sunshine soap was born!

  • If you like the smell of rose (which I do) then you can never blend too much of it together.  The bottom layer of this soap has a combination of Rose Geranium essential oil, and powdered Madder Root (for natural color).  The top layer is Rose Absolute essential oil and dried rose buds.  One of the things that I absolutely love about soap making is that I’m never exactly sure what the end result is going to look like, or smell like.  I come up with a list of botanicals that I want to combine, write down my recipe (essentially so that I can try and recreate it if I like the results) and then start the soap making.  The end result (just like Feelin’ Rosey) is always something of a wonderful surprise.

The combination of oils that I used for the soap base was my standard oil blend.  The properties of the different additives in this soap are as follows:

Rose Geranium essential oil – Mood balancing; Anti-depressant; restores confidence and facilitates trust and emotional healing; is said to help treat eczema, rashes and dermatitis.  If you are interested in the chakra system, this oil can be used to balance the Vishuddha (5th / throat) chakra.

Rose Absolute essential oil and Rose Buds – Builds confidence; fortifying; a healer of the heart; encourages empathy and compassion; can help treat eczema, rashes and dermatitis.  Balances and unblocks the Anahata (4th / heart) chakra.

Madder Root powder – Has been used since ancient times as a dye plant.  The color of the powder is more an orange brown than red, but that’s the magic of cold-process soap!
